Description
Hibiscus species represent nations: Hibiscus syriacus is the national flower of South Korea, and Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is the national flower of Malaysia. The hibiscus is the national flower of the Republic of Haiti. The red hibiscus is the flower of the Hindu goddess Kali, and appears frequently in depictions of her in the art of Bengal, India, often with the goddess and the flower merging in form. The hibiscus is used as an offering to goddess Kali and Lord Ganesha in Hindu worship.
The red hibiscus seems to be the color the average person thinks of a hibiscus flower color. The red blooms are so common throughout the world. Red hibiscus is believed to be first, most ancestral of all hibiscuses. That single red bloom has emerged in modern times as common garden hibiscus displaying many different shades of reds such as the Robert Fleming or Lord Baltimore hibiscus.
The red hibiscus flower can now be seen displayed on hibiscus plants that range in height from 4 to 8 feet. The colorful shades and depths of the red flowers are diverse and spell binding. Spectacular, brilliant, red flowers 6 to 8 across, are borne most of summer and fall. The blooms last only one day, but new ones open daily.
The red hibiscus flower can be found on hardy hibiscus plants or on the tropical hibiscus. So, no matter where you live, you can enjoy the red colors of so many hibiscus varieties.
