The oldest Rembrandt statue in Amsterdam: it dates from 1852. The plan for its creation dates from 1841, and its creator is Louis Royer (Belgium).
When the statue was placed, the square was still called Botermarkt (Butter Market). The square was named Rembrandtplein in 1876.

Rembrandtplein is a major square in central Amsterdam, the Netherlands, named after the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn who owned a house nearby from 1639 to 1656.
