Description
Aphrodite Macro. The Beauty of Irises by Jenny Rainbow.
Lately I have been so much blessed to get entrance to the Iris exhibition before its official opening! I was so much enjoying visual celebration of colors for these tender exquisite Gods creation as Irises without any crowd around! It gave a chance to merge with this beauty and get an utmost from this shooting. So now sharing this gorgeous beauty with all of you!
Tall Bearded Iris Aphrodite.
Family: Iridaceae
Hybridized by William Rickatson Dykes. 1922
Bloom Color: Magenta (Pink-Purple), Violet, White
From 1929 Quality Gardens catalog: Unquestionably the best of the violet pinks. It is certain, that, in purity of tone and brightness of color, it stands in a class by itself. The flowers are of good size and perfect form, freely produced on stems 4 feet high, sweetly scented. Its color is a pure bright violet pink self, standards and falls being identical in tone, the latter having a striking and pleasing white flush from the center of the blade to the haft. The standards are strong and beautifully arched, the falls smooth and glossy, with no prominent veining or reticulation. One of the strongest and most vigorous growers in the garden.
From Longfield Iris Farm catalog, 1930: Aphrodite (Dykes, 1922). This is considered one of the best of the so-called "pink" Irises. The flowers are of good size and of perfect form, freely produced on stems four feet high and sweetly scented. In color it is a clear, bright violet pink-self, with no veinings to detract from its loveliness; half white, with a lemon beard
