SAINT WILLIBRORD CHURCH
Title: Halo & Trompe-L`Oeil
Artist: Titia Ex / Aldo Hoeben
The Sint-Willibrordkerk (Saint Willibrord's Church) is the best-kept secret sanctuary of Utrecht. What started as a hidden church is now an impressive Neo-Gothic construction, tucked away in an old residential block. Aldo Hoeben has created an intriguing trompe-l'oeil, which projects the interior of the church onto the entrance in spectacular fashion. Titia Ex touches on the soul of the building, adorning its facade with her artwork Halo. And so, suddenly, at night, Saint Willibrord's secret is out...
With a background in Industrial Design and a passion for photography, Aldo Hoeben became specialized in portraying spaces and events. As a panoramic photographer, he learned how to manipulate perspective artfully and creatively; a skill he puts to good use in his light art installations.
Artist Titia Ex works with light, sound and the perception of space. The history of a location, or current function of a space, greatly influences how she creates her artworks. Titia Ex's work often lends a subtle and poetic note to public spaces.
