Alexander Svirsky (1448 - August 30, 1533) - Russian Orthodox saint, revered in the face of the monk, abbot. Memory is performed April 17 and August 30 (Julian calendar). Born in Ladoga village Mandera (Sermaksa) on the right bank of the river Oyat, a tributary of the river Svir, near Permission-Oyat monastery, a family of peasants and Stephen Bassa, which was later also adopted monastic vows.According to the Life of the mother for a long time prayed to God for the birth of a child and gave birth to a son after many years of infertility. At birth, was named in honor of the prophet Amos. When Amos grew up, he was given to literacy, but life says that he learned to "tap and not soon."
At age 19, Amos secretly went to Balaam, where the 7 years he lived as a novice, and in 1474 he was tonsured with the name Alexander. Retire to the secluded island, later called Holy, Alexander had worked for about seven years in a cave. On Holy Island is now the Alexander-Svirsky monastery of Holy Transfiguration Valaam Monastery, where the show cave and dug his own holy hands mogilu.V in 1485 with the blessing of Abbot of the monastery, Alexander went to the holy lake, near Olonets and Svir. Over time, the monastery was formed here, now known as the Alexander-Svirsky monastyr.Soglasno hagiographic literature, famous for many miracles and a righteous way of life. He has trained many students in the monastery and led to the belief of many laymen. For a while the saint lived in complete seclusion and conducted harsh life. After 25 years of seclusion, according to the Life of Alexander the sole of the Russian saints, was awarded the phenomenon of the Holy Trinity.
